Christmas puddings are on most family’s festive shopping list.  The Ultimate Plum Pudding is one of the finest Christmas puddings you can buy.  It has been endorsed by the BBC Good Food Magazine and by Chef magazine as being as good as the best home made and in 2003 it won a food ‘Oscar’ – a gold award at the Great Taste Awards, an international competition organised by the Guild of Fine Food Retailers. It is used by top chefs and sold as prestigious private labels throughout the country. 

A very small craft manufacturer in Cumbria makes the pudding and it’s absolutely gorgeous. The recipe is from a family of really good cooks, 3 of them had restaurants in the Good Food Guide.  All the vine fruits are soaked in lots of brandy and dry sherry.  Fresh breadcrumbs and freshly grated carrot help give the pudding a lighter texture. It’s not steamed until it’s black so it’s not caramelised and bitter. Ingredients are top quality and much more varied than usual – almonds, walnuts, stem ginger, apricots, cherries as well as the best raisins and sultanas.  Most people have no idea that Christmas pudding can be this good and lots of people enjoy it who ‘don’t like Christmas pudding’.

Ingredients:

Vine fruits(raisins, sultanas)(27%), fresh breadcrumbs, free range egg, dark sugar, carrot, apple(6%), flour, mixed peel(4%), dates(3%), brandy(2.5%), sherry(2.5%), cherries (colour E127)(2.5%), stem ginger(2.5%), vegetable suet, all vegetable margarine, almonds(1%), walnuts(1%), apricots(1%), golden syrup, spices, salt, preservative - potassium sorbate.

The pudding is suitable for vegetarians, it contains no cows milk products and no genetically modified ingredients.
