26th March 2007 Over 200 sign Freedom Wall. Members of St. John's Church Youth Group, The Rock, who meet in The Box on Sunday mornings, highlighted the growing problem of people trafficking in the world today when they staged a 'Freedom Day' event in Epping High Street on Saturday.

Over 200 people, including Epping Town Mayor, Alan Smith, and members of the local clergy signed the wall. Click on the thumbnail above to see photographs of the event. The event took place as part of the national 'Stop The Traffik' campaign. Coinciding with the 200th Anniversary of the Abolition of Slavery, the campaign aims to raise awareness of the plight of thousands of people, many of whom are children, who are being bought and sold into terrible conditions across the world, including Britain and Europe. Visit www.stopthetraffik.org.uk for more information about the campaign and how you can take part.

The Box is "a Christian organisation committed to social justice and actively opposed to discrimination in society" (Equal Opportunities Policy Statement, revised June 2005).

We believe that this extends to our purchasing choices and we are committed to providing fairly traded options where this is possible. The Box is committed to using Fairtrade Tea, Coffee, Hot Chocolate and Sugar in our hot drinks vending and when catering for meetings and other events. We have gradually introduced Fairtrade options in our snack vending.

To mark Fairtrade fortnight, The Box is launching an extended range of Fairtrade products in our snack vending machine. These include more flavours of Geobar, Dubble, Raisins and dried fruit, Fairbreak wafers and chocolate cookies.

The Box is using the "See The Flip Side" campaign to increase education and awareness about the impact of buying Fairtrade products. Check out www.seetheflipside.co.uk for more details.

22nd January 2007 Jazz night at The Box raises almost £400.

The Box was turned into a Jazz Club by Loughton's vineyard church on Saturday evening to raise funds for The Box. The church's resident jazz band entertained about seventy people by candlelight after half of Epping was plunged into darkness by a power failure. Many thanks to Vineyard's Epping House Group who organised a wonderful evening.

4th January 2007 Recycle your old mobile phones and printer cartridges and raise funds for The Box. We will be organising collections within the next few weeks but in the meantime please drop any empty cartridges or old phones into The Box and raise valuable funds for our work with young people in Epping.
